It Started With a Glass of Sour Cherry Juice
Meet Andy, the founder of Brightroot.
Where It Started
Every night after dinner, my grandfather drank a small glass of sour cherry juice. Same glass, same shelf in the fridge, same routine — for as long as anyone in our family can remember.
As a kid, I thought it was the worst thing I'd ever tasted. I asked him once why he drank it. He tapped his knee and said, "So I can still beat you to the gate."
He wasn't a health nut. He'd never read a study in his life. It was just something his mother did, and her mother before that. In our house, nobody called it a supplement. It was just what you did for your knees.
And here's the thing — he did beat me to the gate. Well into his seventies.
The Moment It Clicked
Years later, my own body started sending invoices. Long runs took three days to recover from instead of one. Mornings had a stiffness to them that coffee couldn't fix.
I remembered the glass.
When I looked into it, I found something that honestly made me laugh: decades after my grandfather's nightly ritual, the research had caught up with him. Tart cherry — and specifically its deep-red anthocyanin compounds — had become one of the most studied fruits in recovery and joint science. Grandpa was right the whole time. He was just early.
So I went to buy the modern version. Capsules instead of that sour glass. Simple, right?
Wrong. What I found was an industry that had taken the simplest remedy in the world and buried it. "10:1 concentrate." "Megadose equivalent." "Proprietary blend." Not one bottle would tell me plainly what my grandfather's ritual told me every night from the fridge shelf: what's inside, and how much.
They took something honest and made it opaque. That's the part I couldn't let go.
Why "Brightroot"
The name is the mission. The good stuff — the real substance — lives at the root of things. Our job is to bring it into the light.
That's why the dose is printed on the front of the bottle, not hidden in a ratio. 3,600mg of standardized tart cherry extract per serving. When our lab confirms each batch, we show you the paperwork. If that sounds like a low bar, we agree. The industry just refuses to clear it.
What We Won't Bend On
The dose is the headline. Every milligram, on the front. If a brand won't tell you the number, ask yourself why.
Verified, not trusted. Every batch is third-party tested. We like our manufacturer — we still check their work.
Nothing it doesn't need. No fillers, no binders, no black pepper tricks to force absorption. Two capsules. That's it.
The grandfather standard. If I wouldn't hand it to the man who drank the real thing every night for fifty years, it doesn't ship.
3,600mg per serving · Third-party tested, every batch · Zero fillers · Made in a cGMP, FDA-registered facility
The Ritual Continues
Somewhere along the way, we traded rituals for shortcuts and got neither. Brightroot is my attempt to bring one back — the same quiet, unglamorous consistency my grandfather had, in a form that fits a modern life.
Two capsules with breakfast. No sour face required. (He'd call that cheating. He'd also probably take them.)
Flip the bottle. Read everything. That's exactly how we want you to shop.
